  • Curious Joe Review

Posted by Mike Nisbet on March 15, 2011

Thanks to the blog Curious Joe, for this review of the King Tut’s Show last week!

    -

Tuesday: Mike Nisbet @ King Tut’s, Glasgow
Mike Nisbet‘s music is incredibly graceful (and is getting more so with age), so much so it’s quite hard to really express how much I like it, because it just doesn’t feel like words like ‘outstanding’ and ‘blinding’ really apply to this kind of mellow music.

It’s hard for any songwriter to pull off this solo acoustic style, but Mike does it with such calculated coolness and Rufus Wainwright-esque deep vocals, that the genuine passion is portrayed in a very collected manner. As I say, a hard style to pull off, but the right amount of personality and honesty can really bring it to light, which the Glasgow man does brilliantly.
His debut album’s due out roughly round about the kinda near future, and I really cannot wait. His Coffee & Cigarettes EP was good, but the new stuff’s sounding even better.

  • Ron Sexsmith

Posted by Mike Nisbet on March 9, 2011

Saturday night, I got a text from my brother saying I should check out this guy on BBC4, an amazing singer/songwriter I should have heard of. I changed the channel to see Ron Sexsmith just about to play a song, a beautiful version of ‘Secret Heart’ (a song I though to have been written by Lesley Feist, but was in fact written by Ron) and I’m blown away.
Within the three and a half minutes the songs lasts I’d got online and was downloading the song. I then discovered that this guy had already released 11 albums and was about to release the 12th! Why haven’t I heard him before, why has no one I know mentioned him to me, but I’m glad I’ve found him now. Ron write the most beautiful songs you can just fall into, little snap shots of feeling and moments.
My favorite things about finding a new artist like this, that have a big back catalogue or even a couple of records, it is that the really special ones, the ones I know I’ll be listing to and talking about when I’m old, always spur new music out of me. Think it’s because I feel energized from the songs, no matter how sad they are (In Rons case, quite melancholy) I’m up, the guitar is out and songs are being written.
Ron Sexsmith is such a special artist I had to write a little post about him, he is now officially my favorite song writer, and I’ve still more of his music to discover. please do check out some of his stuff, and buy it, support him, love him

Greetings,  it’s a lovely sunny saturday and I’m glad it’s light in the morning, the hibernation is over.

last night I got a message from my older brother telling me there was a great singer songwriter on BBC4 last night, Ron Sexsmith.  He has now become one of my favorite singers ever and I’ve only been aware of his work for 15 hours! please o check this guy out, 11 albums, I’m annoyed I’ve not heard of him before

I’d recommend ‘Secret Heart’ (Feist fans will know this one)  &  ’Right About Now’

Anyways, Tuesday night I will be supporting Dead Rock west at King Tut’s and would love to see you there, get in touch for tickets, got a few left, so be quick.

    So happy it is sunny!
